In his first season with the Monarchs, the USC commit completed 70 percent of his passes for 3,846 yards and 39 TDs as Mater Dei captured CIF-SS Division 1 and CIF State Open Division titles. Young highlighted his season by leading a game-winning, 75-yard scoring drive – capped by his 6-yard TD run – in the final 3½ minutes to help Mater Dei rally past national powerhouse IMG Academy of Florida 28-24. The first-team, All-Trinity League selection also led a critical scoring drive in the final six minutes against De La Salle in the Open Division final. “Bryce Young took over in that last drive,” Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson said.
