A year ago this week, the Georgia Bulldogs were getting ready to play Alabama in the SEC Championship game. No one knew Justin Fields, Georgia’s backup freshman quarterback, would seek a transfer shortly after his team lost.
Fields showed flashes during his freshman season of living up to his 5-star status but was still the backup to Jake Fromm. After getting help from an attorney, he was granted immediate eligibility from the NCAA on February 8 and at that point was projected as being the new starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The rest is history.
The 6’3 225-pound sophomore impressed football fans from around the country from his first game this season to his amazing performance against rival, Michigan, last week.
Big 10 Awards
His play on the field just earned him the Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year award, Big 10 Quarterback of the Year, and First Team All-Big 10 honors. He is also a Top 3 Heisman Trophy candidate. That will be announced next weekend in New York.
