It’s arguable that the second most important position in football behind the quarterback is the offensive tackle. Without a stout offensive tackle, quarterbacks would be constantly running for their lives avoiding opposing defensive ends and linebackers.
Luckily for the Catholic High School football team in Baton Rouge, they don’t have to worry about having a weak offensive tackle. That’s because 2022 prospect Emery Jones has been the rock for the Catholic Bear’s offensive line, and he looks to have another productive season in 2020.
Huge Potential
Emery Jones stands at 6’5” and weighs 320-pounds, an outstanding build for a rising junior offensive tackle. Jones could very well grow a few more inches before college and has the frame to put on more weight to make it harder for defenders to get by him.
Regardless, as of now Jones is still a very powerful run blocker, who constantly pancakes defensive linemen across from him. After a successful sophomore year for Jones, college coaches began to take notice of his production on the field during the 2019 season.
Scholarship Offers
At the moment, Jones holds offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Houston, Louisiana, LSU, and Tulane. His most recent offer came on June 9th from Texas A&M, Jones hasn’t given any hints as to what school he is leaning towards. Jones is also very early in the recruiting process, and will likely pick up more Power 5 offers as his high school career continues. He doesn’t have any visits planned to schools anytime soon due to coronavirus pandemic.
Look for Emery Jones’s name to appear frequently in recruiting news over the next couple years. Jones has the potential to be a fantastic offensive tackle at the collegiate level, maybe even at the professional level.
In the meantime, Catholic High School’s quarterback can rest easy at night, knowing that Emery Jones will be protecting his blindside.
