The Corky Kell Classic has taken place every year in Atlanta for the past three decades. It features the best high school football teams in Georgia playing against each other. This year was no different.
Five games took place Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and they did not disappoint. A handful of the best high school football prospects in the state of Georgia (and Alabama) took part in this year’s classic. Here’s a look at the top 5 performances.
Kaleb Webb, WR McEachern
Webb was absolutely outstanding in Game 1 of the Corky Kell Classic. The 6-2, 185-pound prospect wound up catching six passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns. He displayed the type of speed and skill that one finds in a Power 5 wide receiver. He also returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score, which really showed his top-end speed. Webb was his region champion in the 100-meter dash qualifying for the state championships. He is committed to East Carolina.
Hayden Clark, QB Mill Creek
Mill Creek had no trouble with Parkview in a 43-10 victory. QB Hayden Clark, a 2023 prospect, went 14-for-24 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Clark has attracted limited opportunities from FBS programs. His performance on Saturday could put him on the radar. Clark has solid arm talent and has the build of an FBS quarterback.
Jacurri Brown, QB Lowndes
Absolutely the most thrilling performance of the day was put on by this Miami commit. Brown (6-4, 205) almost single-handedly beat Walton with 153 yards rushing on 24 carries and another 163 yards passing and three touchdowns. He completed 10-of-18 passes and had a hand in all four Lowndes touchdowns. That last one was the most thrilling, tossing an 8-yard TD pass to WR Chase Belcher on the game’s final play in regulation.
Bennett Meredith, QB Hoover
Perennial Alabama power Hoover outplayed North Gwinnett from the outset of their game on Saturday. Leading the way for the Buccaneers was 2022 QB Bennett Meredith who completed 16-of-26 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter. Meredith holds five offers all from a Group of 5 schools. His senior season may have Power 5 schools knocking on his door.
Travis Hunter, WR/DB Collins Hill
Hunter put up likely the most insane stat line of all players at the Corky Kell Classic. Hunter, a Florida State commit, caught 13 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass. On defense, where he will likely play at the next level, Hunter picked off a pass and recorded a tackle for loss. Not surprisingly, Hunter led Collins Hill to a 36-10 win over Brookwood.
