The Alabama Crimson Tide has the #1 recruiting class in the country, and they just got stronger, adding another 5-star recruit with Camar Wheaton.
Wheaton, a 5’11 195-pound running back from Lakeview Centennial high school in Garland, Texas, is considered the top back in the 2020 class. He narrowed his choices down to Alabama and Oklahoma in early December and picked the Tide a few days after the early signing period. His verbal commitment gives Alabama their 7th 5-star prospect in this class.

Twitter Announcement
On Twitter, Wheaton let everyone know it was a tough decision between the Sooners and Alabama. “Toughest decision of my life and I was torn, and I was completely unsure of which school to attend. Thanks to all my coaches, family, friends, teachers, and LC administration.”
Statistics
Due to COVID-19, Wheaton and his team could not play in the first round of the playoffs. He finished the shortened season with 71 carries for 603 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Until his senior year, he rushed for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons the last two years and scored 29 touchdowns. In 2019, Wheaton was the District 10-6A Most Valuable Player.
EFN Evaluation
The first thing you will notice about Camar is his outstanding speed. In his sophomore year, he ran the 100m in 10.62 and the 200m in 21.78, and it shows on the football field. He is shifty and can make a single cut and go the distance. If he breaks into the open field, he will make defenses pay. He’s not all that powerful, but he doesn’t need to be since defenses can’t catch him. Camar is also an excellent receiver out of the backfield and is a huge threat as a return man on special teams. He has all the tools and will shine in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama Invades Texas
Overall, Alabama picked up 7 Texas players in this 2020 recruiting class. They continue to cherry-pick the best from the Lone Star State and have won the head to head recruiting battles with Texas A&M, Texas, and Oklahoma.
