A quarterback’s worst nightmare is facing a defensive lineman who has the speed to beat blockers off the edge, and the length to bat down passes at will.
Ascension Catholic’s J’mond Tapp is that nightmare. Tapp has been making a lot of noise during his freshman and sophomore seasons playing for Ascension Catholic and looks to make opposing quarterback’s lives a lot harder.
Standing at 6’4”, and weighing 240lbs, Tapp is considered to be the top defensive ends in the state of Louisiana for the 2022 recruiting class.
Post Season Honors
Tapp earned LFCA 1A All-State Honorable Mention during the 2019 season, and was on the 1A-7 All-District Team as well. He has the size and strength to overpower offensive lineman, and the speed to chase down quarterbacks for a sack.
To add on to his abilities, he has the arm span to block plenty of passes, and a couple of them turned into interceptions last year. Tapp is already a 4 star recruit and is ranked 172nd in the country in ESPN’s top 300 in the 2022 class.
Sophomore Season leads to Offers
After Tapp’s sophomore year, he already holds multiple offers from Power 5 programs across the country. Tapp’s offers so far include Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. Colleges like the fact that Tapp not only excels in football, but is a tremendous athlete in basketball, as nowadays college coaches are looking for well balanced athletes.
It’s unclear if Tapp is leaning towards any particular school at the moment, but if he has another exceptional year in 2020 you can bet he’ll have plenty of other schools from which to choose.
Powerhouse Program
Tapp is no stranger to success either, Ascension Catholic high school has had a very good football program over the past couple of years. Tapp as a freshman played a big role in leading the Bulldogs to a state title appearance, and as a sophomore he led the team to their first undefeated regular season for the first time in school’s history. Ascension Catholic unfortunately lost in the regional round of the 2019 playoffs, but Tapp is looking to lead his team back to the state finals game.
J’mond Tapp has huge upside potential and should continue to have a productive high school career. Whichever Power 5 football program lands Tapp, he’ll prove to be an absolute nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and offensive linemen.
