There’s no doubt that there are a lot of talented athletes at the high school football level in America, especially in the southern part of the country. It is rare, however, to find someone who can play both wide receiver and cornerback at Division I caliber levels.
Leroy Paige out of New Orleans, Louisiana is one of the few high school football players who can do just that. Paige was making a lot of noise in the 2019 season, catching scouts’ eyes for his innate ability to thrive at both the wide receiver and cornerback position.
Paige stands at an impressive 6’4” and weighs 180 pounds, an ideal build for a wideout who can run a 4.4 40 yard dash. Paige had a very successful sophomore year during the 2019 season playing for John F. Kennedy High School out of New Orleans, although next year he will be playing for Holy Cross also located in New Orleans.
“Showtime” Will Play For Holy Cross in 2020
With his height, Paige does a very good job catching jump balls in the endzone and can slip out of tackles easily against opposing corners and linebackers. He also excels at cornerback, constantly finding himself in a good position to either intercept or bat down a pass. Not only is Paige productive on the field, but off the field as well, boasting a 3.2 GPA allowing him to attend almost any college he wants given his athletic attributes.
Evaluation
As a star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, Leroy Paige is getting plenty of looks from college coaches heading into his junior year of high school. Paige already holds offers from Baylor, Florida State, Houston, Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, Virginia, and South Alabama.
It’s unclear which school is the front runner for Paige right now, especially since visits are being put on hold due to coronavirus. One thing is for sure though, if Paige continues to ball out in high school, then plenty more offers will start flowing in.
Even though Paige still has two more years of high school football left, he looks ready to compete at the Division I level. Whatever school lands Leroy Paige, they won’t be getting just a wide receiver or a cornerback, but an athlete that will give their football program a huge boost.
