There are several high profile athletes from Tennessee that remain uncommitted from the Class of 2021, and near the top of that list on the defensive side of the field is Jonesborough native Prince Kollie, a 4-star outside linebacker from David Crockett High School. He is currently the highest-rated defensive player available from the Volunteer State.
2019 Recap
Kollie is a 6-2, 200-pound class of 2021 prospect who is ranked nationally as an outside linebacker, and in the Top 10 among all players from Tennessee in the Class of 2021. In 2019, Kollie caught 68 passes for 1,085 yards and 9 touchdowns in just 11 games. On the defensive end, Kollie recorded 143 tackles over the last two seasons, including 2 sacks, 13 passes defended, 4 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. His exceptional junior year performance allowed him to secure 2019 All-State Defensive honors in Class 5A. The Crockett junior also pays particular interest to religion and academics, maintaining near a 3.5 GPA last semester.
EFN Evaluation
Kollie is an exceptional talent in the 2021 recruiting class. He excels on both sides of the ball as an Outside Linebacker and Wide Receiver. He has the speed, burst, twitch, and plays with aggression. As an Outside Linebacker, he is an outstanding pass rusher that causes a lot of problems for opposing offenses. From the weak side, he has excellent chase down skills. He is an explosive tackler coming downhill and packs a mean punch running through ball carriers. Prince is violent taking on blockers pursuing the football.
As a receiver, he shows off his play making skills and athleticism. He is a go to option in the passing game and is a great offensive weapon.
Recruiting Status
The Jonesborough product has received over 30 offers from DI schools, but recently tweeted that he would be trimming this list down to 10 universities: Tennessee, Georgia, Louisville, Virginia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Auburn, LSU, and Wake Forest. Notre Dame was the most recent of the group to join the mix, offering Kollie a scholarship within the last two weeks.
As it currently stands, the hometown Volunteers are the favorites to land his services, telling VR2, “There are a lot of huge Vols fans down here, and there will probably be some bias for them. It was one I had been waiting for because I am only one hour down the road. It was one I waited on, and I am excited about it.”
Team Accomplishments
With Prince’s presence on both sides of the ball, it was hard for David Crockett High School to not have a winning season. The Pioneers started the year on a seven-game win-streak but struggled to get on the right side of the scorecard for the remainder of the season, losing four straight games within 10 points or less. Their final loss came in the first round of the playoffs to Knoxville Central, the 5A State Champions.
Although it’s hard to predict the success of any prospect at the next level, Kollie’s head coach, Hayden Chandley, knows that he can make an impact. “He tends to pick up things pretty quickly, he’s got a knack for just being a football player,” said Chandley. “His natural instincts are exceptional and he uses them to his advantage very well.”
