Emar’rion Winston plays on the defending state championship Central Catholic Rams, and he was a sophomore this past year that made a big impact. With a senior-heavy team in 2019, he will be one of the top players returning, as well as in the state of Oregon.
Emar’rion is 6’4 235-pounds and fits well into the tight end, outside linebacker, and defensive lineman positions, but he mainly played on the defensive side of the ball in 2019. Even with a great defense, the sophomore still made his mark in the stat-book, logging 25 tackles, 2 TFL, a sack, and 4 passes deflected.
Winston has a quick first step off the ball, which helps him rapidly get to the ball carrier in the backfield. He maintains containment on the outside and then comes up field to make the play very often. When the quarterback goes up to pass, Winston is great at getting his hands up and batting balls when he is unable to get pressure in the backfield. He can play on the line, and also has the ability to drop back in coverage and play 1-on-1 with receivers.

FAMILY SUCCESS
What Emar’rion lacks in quantity of offers, he certainly makes up for in quality. He has one offer from Oregon, which is where most have him ending up. This makes sense as he has one brother at USC (Eli’jah Winston) and one at Oregon (LaMar Winston). The talented linebacker will certainly garner the interest of more schools in his upcoming junior year, but it will be tough to pry him away from his home state school in Oregon.
Winston was a standout sophomore on a dominant Central Catholic team. They ended the year at the top of the Oregon football ranks, as they were fantastic in the playoffs before winning the state title. With the team losing some top talent, Winston will have a lot of room to grow as he starts to become one of the leaders on a stacked team.
