The Roadrunners have played in 5 of the last 6 Illinois State Championship games. Tyler Morris played in his first state title game as a freshman, alongside Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy, and the dynamic duo was able to capture a state championship.
The 6’0 170-pound class of 2022 prospect made it make to the IHSA 7A State Title game in his second season. His team fell short in a 13-37 loss in the 2019 IHSA 7A State Title game to Mount Carmel.
Sophomore Season
The rising junior at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange, Illinois is considered one of the best slot receivers in the country. Morris had for over 1,700 total yards of offense and 24 touchdowns.
Morris earned two different recognitions following the season: 2019 CCL/ESCC Orange Division All-Conference and 2019 Sun-Times All-Area. In addition, Morris was also named to a few Sophomore All-American Teams.
He currently holds scholarship offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and a dozen more colleges.
EFN Evaluation
Morris was given a 91 overall rating by EFN. He is an explosive athlete that is a big-play threat on a powerhouse team. He was one of J.J. McCarthy’s favorite targets in the passing game. Tyler is ultra-quick off the line, has the suddenness to get in and out of his breaks, and can create a lot of separation over the middle and vertically. He has the body control to make tough catches near the sideline and has the awareness to get his feet in bounds. He is a mismatch in the red zone and in 1-on-1 situations.
Morris and his team will have to make some adjustments in 2020 after the announcement of J.J. McCarthy transferring to IMG Academy for his senior season.
One thing is for sure, Morris will still be a big-play threat for Nazareth and his stock will continue to rise over his final two seasons.
