Denton Guyer lost to Austin Westlake 24-0 in the Texas 6A Division 2 state championship game on Saturday. They had an unfortunate situation happen on their first offensive possession, losing their star quarterback, Eli Stowers.
The one bright spot for Guyer at AT&T Stadium was the play of running back Kaedric Cobbs. He led all rushers with 162 rushing yards on 28 carries. He accounted for a large majority of his team’s 239 yards of total offense.
Cobbs is a 5’10 210-pound senior that has dominated against great competition all season long. Since his freshman season, he has been Guyer’s workhorse in the running game.
COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES
Based on his production and 4-year track record of competing at a high level in Texas, Cobbs has a limited number of opportunities as we get closer to the late NCAA signing period.
He has scholarship offers from the 3 main military academies and the rest are from Division 1AA schools. This is no knock against these schools, but Cobbs has rushed for 6,762 career yards and scored over 100 touchdowns in Texas 6A high school football against elite competition.

EFN EVALUATION
Cobbs is an every-down back that has the versatility to run between the tackles with power and has the ability to change speeds and directions making it difficult for defenders to get a clean shot on him. This allows him to get to the second and third levels and pick up big chunks of yards. He has shown that he can outrun defensive backs and is quick and explosive in space.
In the passing game, Cobbs is an outstanding receiver that can line up in the slot and will beat linebackers 1-on-1 on wheel routes. He plays with an unmatched intensity and will to win. He can check almost every evaluation box and has a proven track record on the field and in the classroom.
We have Cobbs as a high Group 5 running back in the class of 2020 and think he will be successful wherever he lands in college. There are still 5-6 weeks left before the late NCAA signing period, and we expect a lot of activity between now and then.
