On an emotional Saturday night in New York City, quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy and became the second LSU player of all-time to win the award. In 1959, Billy Cannon was the only other LSU player to win the Heisman.
Burrow had the largest margin of victory in Heisman history. He captured 90.7% of the first-place votes and was named on a record 95.5% of the ballots. Jalen Hurts from Oklahoma finished second, Justin Fields and Chase Young from Ohio State, finished third and fourth respectively.
Joe Burrow set new SEC single-season records with 4,715 passing yards and 48 touchdown passes. He is also on pace to break the NCAA completion % record, completing 77.9% of his passes to date.
In addition to winning the Heisman Trophy and setting new records, Burrow won the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp National Player of the Year award, and he was the AP Press Player of the Year.
The only thing left for Burrow to accomplish this season is helping his team win the National Championship. The Tigers will continue the quest on December 28, when they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoffs.
