Despite their 5-6 overall record, TCU scores big with Garrett Hayes committing this week. This was the TCU’s 13th commit in the 2020 recruiting class.
Hayes is a 6’6 290-pound offensive tackle from Athens high school in Texas. He is the 2nd highest-rated recruit for TCU in the last decade. This is a perfect example of TCU being the right fit and opportunity for Hayes.
HAYES HAD LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to TCU, Hayes had offers from LSU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Baylor, Florida State, Ole Miss, and about 15 other Power 5 programs. He is considered by most media outlets as a Top 10 overall offensive lineman in the country.
Last season, Hayes was a 4A Honorable Mention All-State performer. He had a great senior season and should earn 1st Team All-State honors this year.
EFN EVALUATION
Garrett has a 93 overall EFN player rating. He is tall at 6’6 and carries his weight extremely well. He looks like he is 250 pounds but is listed at 295. He is super athletic pulling and blocking downfield, even at the 3rd level.
Hayes is a head hunter that plays 100 MPH and has one goal in mind on every play and that is to steamroll whoever lines up across from him. When he pancakes a defender, he coined a new phrase called, “You Got Hayes’d”.
Garrett has elite strength for his age and plays with an intensity not seen often at the high school level. He fires off the ball fast and zeroes in on his target. He is violent at the point of attack and he won’t stop until he finishes them off.
HAYES WILL LOOK TO CONTRIBUTE EARLY
Without a doubt, Hayes will compete to be in the starting rotation as a true freshman and will definitely be an impact player for TCU for several years. He is a player that can help bring in other top recruits and improve TCU’s chances for contending for a Big 12 title.
They have a long way to go but Hayes is a player that can change the program in a positive way. The Horn Frogs got a big boost adding Hayes to their 2020 class.
