The Texas Tech Red Raiders have struggled this season with a 4-7 overall record and 2-6 in the Big 12 Conference. Even though this season hasn’t gone the way they would like, they got some exciting news this week, landing one of the top recruits in Texas, Loic Fouonji.
Fouonji is a 6’4 195-pound wide receiver in the class of 2020 from Midland Lee high school. He had offers from USC, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas, Colorado, Indiana, Arkansas, Texas A&M, SMU, Arizona, and Kansas. Out of the 18 players committed to the Red Raiders right now, Fouonji is the highest-rated prospect.
EFN EVALUATION
Here at the Elite Football Network, Fouonji has a 93 overall rating and was the best available wide receiver prospect on the board in Texas for the 2020 class prior to his commitment.
Loic is a big receiver with elite size. He is tall, lean, and is a long strider that eats up a defensive backs cushion quickly. Fouonji is a solid route runner who wins all jump balls and is a threat in the red zone. He has the quick burst to turn quick screens and hitches into big plays. Loic ran a 21.42 in the 200M in track last April.
Fouonji became Midland Lee’s all-time career leader in receiving yards this season. That is an incredible accomplishment considering Lee’s history of success and producing elite-level talent. Loic has a 3-year track record of putting up some amazing numbers.
Take a Look at the Numbers
For his career, he has caught 137 passes for 2,735 yards and 40 touchdowns. This season he has taken his game to another level. He has caught 68 passes for 1,425 yards and 22 touchdowns. Teams know he is a focal point to their offense, yet they still haven’t been able to stop him.
He is not done yet. Midland Lee (11-1) will take on #6 Southlake Carroll in the Texas 6A Regionals this Saturday. This is a matchup of two powerhouse programs looking to advance to the next round and one step closer to a potential state championship.
Texas Tech beat out some big competition getting Fouonji and you can bet he will make an immediate impact in the Red Raider offense in 2020 and in his game Saturday.
